Outdoor table and chairs set – If you plan to paint your patio furniture, you will need to condition the surface to promote adhesion of paint, or whether it will eventually end up with chipping and peeling. If you want to stain the furniture, you will need to remove any old paint that could interfere with the ability of the furniture to absorb stains.

Clean the outdoor table and chairs set with dish washing soap and a brush of thick plastic. Rinse the furniture with a water hose. Allow the surface to dry completely before proceeding. Sand the top layer of gloss varnish using a palm sander loaded with sandpaper grit 200. Clean the table and chairs with a tack cloth. Protect the parts of the table and the chairs you want left unstained by covering them with masking tape. Cover the floor under furniture with plastic covers.  Apply a light coat of stain using brush two oil based four inches. Allow the stain to dry for two hours, and then apply an additional layer to a darker finish. Flush the oil – based brush with mineral spirits. Apply two light varnish layers using the oil – based brush. Allow two hours of drying time between coats.

Clean the patio table and chairs with dish washing soap and a brush of thick plastic. Rinse the furniture with a water hose. Scrape away any loose or peeling paint using a metal spatula. Protect any part of the table and the chairs you want left unpainted by covering them with masking tape. Cover the floor under furniture with fabric covers. Apply a coat of latex primer binding to the outdoor table and chairs set using a brush two to four inches of latex. Let the primer dry for three hours. Wash the brush with water. Apply acrylic latex paint for furniture using latex paint brush two to four inches.
